Bouygues Telecom, in keeping with its spirit of initiative, is the first operator to implement a green hydrogen power solution on certain of its mobile network sites. This innovative solution significantly improves the environmental footprint of its activities, with a 70% reduction in C02 emissions and a noise level divided by 100 (-20dB) compared to a traditional generator.

Paris, 28 March 2022 – In partnership with Bouygues Energies & Services and the company PowiDian, this virtuous innovation is being implemented by Bouygues Telecom as part of the deployment of one-off or permanent installations on the Bouygues Telecom mobile network. The need for additional mobile coverage is becoming increasingly frequent during events such as sports competitions, trade fairs and festivals. With regard to the supply of permanent sites, this innovation is a concrete response to certain isolated and difficult-to-access locations that are waiting for an electrical connection.

The first presentation of this BTruck5G mobile device took place in front of the president of ARCEP, during Innovations Days, an event organised by Bouygues Telecom on 23rd March and 24th March. The BTruck5G is the ultimate solution for bringing ultra-high-speed broadband to temporary events. These state-of-the-art trucks, conceived and designed by Bouygues Telecom teams, are a real showcase of innovation. Equipped with the latest 5G equipment, they are being installed throughout France to enable people to take full advantage of Bouygues Telecom’s extensive mobile network in any situation.

At the same time, the Hyvision green hydrogen power solution developed by Bouygues Energies & Services is being deployed in Meyrargues, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, to power a 4G mobile site. PowiDian is providing a hydrogen electric generator to replace the traditional generator, and other departments will soon be able to benefit from it.

“This green hydrogen power solution is a further illustration of our commitment to reconciling digital and environmental issues for the benefit of regional areas and of our desire to invest in useful innovations,” said Jean-Paul Arzel, Executive Vice President, Technology, Network and Information Systems at Bouygues Telecom.

“It is part of the implementation of energy efficiency strategies for our mobile network and an ambitious investment plan for new-generation equipment that is less carbon-intensive and consumes less energy.”

“This partnership with Bouygues Telecom and PowiDian is the result of a collective effort between players committed to the Energy Transition. We are proud to be able to deploy our “Hyvision” solution for the mobile production of energy from green hydrogen in response to a specific use in the field,” explains Caroline Mazzoleni, Deputy Director of Hydrogen and Smart Energies at Bouygues Energies & Services. “This innovative solution provides an appropriate response to the development needs of telecoms networks and also helps to improve the quality of life in regional areas by significantly reducing CO2 emissions and noise pollution. Bouygues Energies & Services is thus confirming its commitment to the deployment of innovative solutions to promote the energy transition.”
